Bjørvika's most colorful building
A building, a bit beyond the ordinary... That's how one can safely describe Clemenskvartalet, which has gone all out to create the perfect settings for the building's residents. Everything from a shared communication platform via an app, kayak sharing, guest apartments, communal hobby rooms, and delightful outdoor areas is ready for them to enjoy.
The fact that Clemenskvartalet is colorful did not escape us as our production cast just over 370 GRC elements for the facade and balconies. The elements, spread over about 130 variations and 1120 m2 (unfolded) of GRC, lit up the production halls with its delicate pink color. A color that stood out among the predominantly gray-toned elements that otherwise characterized the production during the same period.
Environmentally certified homes
One thing is the high level of service and community-enhancing settings, but Clemenskvartalet goes further, being environmentally certified according to BREEAM-Nor. In certifications like this, all material choices count.
As Jonny Klokk from Mad Architects stated to OSU about Clemenskvartalet and the certification: "We have ordinary regulations that everyone must follow, and then we have BREEAM, which goes beyond normal requirements. It requires a little extra, but it is also a quality stamp."
Our solutions in GRC are ideal in this context due to, among other things, lightweight properties, thin tailored solutions with a focus on high quality, and minimizing both waste and environmentally harmful materials. Our GRC is thus included in buildings certified by BREEAM, LEED, and DGNB globally.

GRC cladding

Glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC or GFRC) is incredibly versatile and grants you an architectural design freedom with almost endless possibilities. With the formability of GRC you can achieve any geometry and with a surface designed for your specific project. GRC is a lightweight material and our cladding elements are typically only 12 mm. Thus, making it easier to work with and transport whilst also easing the load on buildings.
GRC is an excellent facade material if durability and sustainability is of great concern and importance. GRC is durable for more than 100 years without any technical maintenance and it does not dent, rot, corrode, nor burn (class A material). With a sustainable material and an environmentally friendly production without toxic materials, GRC elements from BB fiberbeton are ideal for environmental certifications, such as LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM.
GRC is made of white cement and fine aggregates and reinforced with glassfibre. Elements are produced using a special spray-technique that allows for a low water/cement-ratio, a low thickness, and a high strength.
